Finally, I know it's just a game, but respecs don't even really make sense. I like the finality of it all, and it really motivates me to play again with a different setup now that I really know what is going to be useful to me. Indeed, I could have a first half build, and a 2nd half build, and I think that would be a bit of an exploit. Is skills that were useful in the beginning of the game are not so much after the first half. The funny thing I learned eventually, now that I'm level 30. I started over a couple times just to get my party just right. The finality of your skill choices might build some regret, but it's hard to mess up too bad. But, as much as I would take advantage of such an ability.
Worst thing Blizzard ever did for the genre. For some reason the hardcore gamers have rewritten RPG history so that all games have "skill point builds" where you screw up your character if you don't do everything perfect. Where are all these old-school games with limited skill point systems where you can completely screw up your character? They don't exist pre-Diablo 2. Hell in Wizardry you could reclass forever and end up with superpowered characters. Neither did Wizardry or the old D&D games. The old Ultima games didn't have skill points. If you really feel strongly about the respec, you can always use a character editor and change them to what you want them to be. The game gets that much harder when you realize that you've wasted a point in the wrong skill. Those decisions have so much more weight when you know they are permanent. Or, at the least, something very similar to what they (read as "we") used to play 25 years ago. I can appreciate why someone would want the option to respec, but I think this game aims to cater to the purists of the old CRPG genre that want a more punishing experience. It's truly an old school methodology to make those decisions final.
